Top 5 Film Extrusion and Bag Making Machines: Specs Compared

The five film extrusion and bag making machines we build, ranked by film width, output and layers, with the figures listed on our product pages for liner film, shopping bags and agricultural film.

Our film extrusion and bag making machines are the five models that turn PE granules into blown film and then into finished bags: two single layer film extrusion machines, one double layer co-extrusion machine, and two film sealing and cutting machines. This list is for woven bag plants that want to make their own liner film instead of buying it, and for packaging plants making shopping, food and agricultural film. We rank the three extruders by film width, output and number of layers, then the two bag makers by bag width and speed. Our recommendation: a woven sack plant that inserts loose liners should buy the SJ-FM65/1000; a plant that laminates the liner inside the tube on a reverse lamination machine needs the double layer SJ-FM42×2/750; and a plant selling finished PE bags pairs either extruder with a YF-DZ600A.

Key definitions

  • Film extrusion (film blowing) machine: an extruder that melts LDPE or HDPE, blows the melt into a tube through a circular die, draws it and winds it as lay-flat tube.
  • Folding width: the flattened (lay-flat) width of the blown tube.
  • Single layer film: one extruder, one material; our product page lists food packaging bags, shopping bags and PP woven sack liners among its uses.
  • Double layer (co-extruded) film: two extruders feeding a combination die so the tube has an inner PE layer and an outer EVA layer; it is used as a liner that a reverse lamination machine laminates to the woven fabric.
  • Film sealing and cutting machine: the bag making machine that feeds tube, seals the bottom and cuts to length, counting bags as it goes.
  • Production capacity (kg/h): the extruder's output by weight; divide by the film's grams per square metre to get film area per hour.

Comparison table

Figures are per model as printed on our product pages; these five models have no table in the printed catalogue. For the double layer machine, output is per extruder (it has two).

1. Single Layer Film Extrusion Machine SJ-FM65/1000

The SJ-FM65/1000 has the widest folding width in this list and the higher output range of the two single layer machines, which puts it first. A 65 mm screw with a 28:1 L/D ratio runs at 15 to 80 r/min on an 18.5 kW main motor with 18 kW of heating, and delivers 20 to 55 kg/h of LDPE or HDPE tube at up to 1000 mm folding width and 0.006 to 0.05 mm single film thickness. The machine occupies 4300 × 2600 × 3900 mm and weighs about 3500 kg. Buy it if your liners or bags need a folding width above 800 mm, or if you also sell agricultural, field or shed film, which the product page says is made by cutting the same tube on one or two sides. Full parameters are on the single layer film extrusion machine page.

2. Double Layer Film Extrusion Machine SJ-FM42×2/750

The SJ-FM42×2/750 is the only two-layer machine in the range and the one to specify when the liner will be laminated to the fabric on a reverse lamination machine, not just inserted. Two extruders with 45 mm screws at a 30:1 L/D ratio, each on an 11 kW main motor and running 12 to 120 r/min, feed a double-channel combination die: the inner-layer extruder runs LDPE, HDPE or LLDPE and the outer-layer extruder runs EVA. Output is 35 kg/h per extruder, maximum folding width is 750 mm, and single-sided film thickness is 0.015 to 0.05 mm; the product page lists a 42 kW driving motor power, a 4200 × 2200 × 4600 mm footprint and about 3500 kg. According to the product page, the finished tube is inserted into the woven fabric and made into laminated bags on a reverse lamination machine See the double layer film extrusion machine page.

3. Single Layer Film Extrusion Machine SJ-FM55/800

The SJ-FM55/800 is the smaller of the two single layer sizes and the entry point for a plant that wants to stop buying liner film. Its 55 mm, 28:1 screw runs at 15 to 90 r/min on a 15 kW main motor with 13 kW of heating, producing 15 to 40 kg/h of tube at up to 800 mm folding width and 0.006 to 0.05 mm thickness. At 4000 × 2600 × 3600 mm and about 2600 kg it is the lightest extruder here. It suits plants whose widest liner fits within 800 mm and whose output need is within 15 to 40 kg/h, and its product page lists the same uses as its larger sister. Details on the single layer film extrusion machine page.

4. Film Sealing and Cutting Machine YF-DZ700A

The YF-DZ700A is the wider of our two bag making machines. It takes plain or colour-printed tube from the extruder, feeds it automatically, counts, seals the bottom and cuts, making bags up to 650 mm wide and 1350 mm long at 30 to 100 pieces per minute under computer control. Gross motor power is 3.2 kW, the footprint is 2650 × 1400 × 1350 mm and the weight about 820 kg. Choose it when the bag or liner width goes above 550 mm. Product page: film sealing and cutting machine.

5. Film Sealing and Cutting Machine YF-DZ600A

The YF-DZ600A is the faster, narrower bag maker: 40 to 120 pieces per minute at up to 550 mm bag width and 1350 mm length, with the same automatic feeding, counting, bottom sealing and cutting and the same computer control as the 700A. It draws 2.5 kW gross, fits in 2650 × 1200 × 1350 mm and weighs about 700 kg, the smallest machine on this list. It is the right choice when your bags are no wider than 550 mm and the higher speed rating matters more than the extra width. It shares the film sealing and cutting machine page with the 700A.

How to choose

  1. Decide whether the liner is inserted or bonded. A loose liner dropped into the sack at the cutting and sewing machine with liner inserting can be blown on a single layer machine, whose product page lists liners for PP woven sacks. A liner laminated to the fabric on a reverse lamination machine calls for the double layer SJ-FM42×2/750, whose product page describes exactly that use.
  2. Fix the maximum width. Take your widest liner or bag and pick the extruder whose folding width covers it: 750 mm on the double layer machine, 800 mm on the SJ-FM55/800, 1000 mm on the SJ-FM65/1000.
  3. Size output in kg/h. Multiply daily bag count by liner weight, divide by working hours, and compare with 15 to 40 kg/h (SJ-FM55/800), 20 to 55 kg/h (SJ-FM65/1000) or 35 kg/h per extruder (SJ-FM42×2/750). Plan with the lower end of the range.
  4. Match the bag maker to the bag. Width up to 550 mm and speed first: YF-DZ600A at 40 to 120 pcs/min. Width up to 650 mm: YF-DZ700A at 30 to 100 pcs/min. Both take bag lengths up to 1350 mm.
  5. Check power and floor space. The extruders need 15 to 18.5 kW of main motor plus 13 to 18 kW of heating (two 11 kW main motors and a listed 42 kW driving motor power on the double layer machine), with installed heights of 3600 to 4600 mm; the bag makers add only 2.5 to 3.2 kW.
  6. Place the line in the plant flow. Film extrusion sits beside the PP woven bag production line so liner tube reaches the cutting and sewing stage or the lamination stage without long transport.
